‘I’m privileged to be in her life’: Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers reveals close friendship with Emmerdale star
Coronation Street favourite Vicky Myers has opened up about her close friendship with Emmerdale star Lisa Riley.
The Lisa Swain actress worked alongside the Mandy Dingle star on BBC series Age Before Beauty in 2018, where they played sisters Heidi and Tina.
The series followed the chaotic lives of one family as they struggled to keep their beauty salon afloat amid sibling rivalries, love affairs and past secrets.
Speaking about working alongside Lisa, Vicky told OK!: ‘She was fantastic with me. She taught me little tricks of the trade and all with the big welcoming arms and cuddles that she’s brilliant at. She’s a massive support and I’m privileged to be in her life.’
Recently, the Emmerdale star took to social media to praise co-star Vicky’s work in the rival soap, revealing that she was ‘unbelievably proud’ of her ‘pretend TV baby sister’ for ‘knocking it out of the park’.
‘I have always said, and mean it from the bottom of my heart, BEAUTIFUL THINGS HAPPEN TO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE…. and one thing is for sure Vicky is an absolute beauty. I am your proudest big sister….keep being you babes,’ she added, alongside two pictures of them on set together.
Vicky was promoted to a series regular on the cobbles earlier this year, much to the delight of fans.
Away from her work as the local detective sergeant, Lisa has fallen for factory boss Carla Connor (Alison King), after months of speculation from fans, who were eager to see the women make their relationship official.
‘I’ve had so many letters and messages, and people stopping to talk to me to share their stories, which is beautiful,’ Vicky told the publication, before revealing the effort she has gone to to ensure the story is being played in the right way.
‘I’ve spoken to many couples who have been in a similar situation, and a close friend and her wife spoke to me at length.
‘This story wasn’t a tick-box exercise from Coronation Street. These are two women of a certain age, realising they have fallen for each other and coming to terms with that. It shows it can happen at any age and to anybody – love is love.’
In upcoming scenes, Lisa is set to be taken aback when Carla lets slip that she loves her at the New Year’s Eve party in the Rovers – but how will Lisa react?
The couple are set to face yet more obstacles in the New Year when Carla’s health takes a turn for the worse, and her murderous brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) makes an unexpected reappearance.
Though things may not always be smooth sailing, Corrie boss Kate Brooks has promised a future for Carla and Lisa, much to the relief of Swarla fans.
‘We want to keep them secure, we want to keep them grounded, we want to make that relationship really believable and it is, what I’ve seen on screen is fantastic between the two of them, and I think it’s really important to tell these stories properly,’ she assured us.
‘At the heart of it is a relationship, it’s a love story and they will, inevitably, get a lot of curveballs thrown their way. 2025 is not a quiet year for those two and there’s a lot of hurdles that come their way, a lot of obstacles, things that they didn’t quite anticipate that get in the way of their relationship, but ultimately they emerge from this strong and united.’
