ITV Coronation Street sh*ck new Rovers Return owner ‘revealed’ – and it’s soap legend
Coronation Street fans are convinced they have worked out who the new owner of the Rovers Return will be – and it’s not who you think
Coronation Street fans reckon they’ve sussed out the identity of the new Rovers Return innkeeper and it’s none other than a soap icon.
The Rovers, arguably the most famous pub in the world of soaps, is steeped in history, having graced our screens for 60 years. Yet, last year saw the beloved landlady Jenny Connor (played by Sally Ann Matthews) grappling with financial woes, putting the future of the historic boozer in jeopardy.
In a twist of fate, Daisy (portrayed by Charlotte Jordan) and Jenny stumbled upon the loot that the villainous Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) Jenny’s former flame had pilfered from Carla’s (Alison King) factory before his untimely demise.
Carla was left reeling after Stephen’s death, convinced her finances were gone for good. Little did she know, Daisy had infiltrated Stephen’s bank accounts, redirecting the funds to secure the pub for herself.
Come April, the cat was out of the bag. An irate Carla confronted Jenny and Daisy upon discovering the theft, laying down the law: “Until you two pay me back every single penny, this place is mine,” effectively making her the new proprietor of the Rovers, reports the Liverpool Echo.
But the plot thickens on the cobbles, with recent events leading fans to believe a change of guard is imminent at the pub. Social media is abuzz with speculation, with many viewers betting on David Platt (Jack P. Shephard) and Shona (Julia Goulding) as the prospective landlords.
This week in Weatherfield, it was unveiled that David was the culprit who nabbed Damon’s (Ciaran Griffiths) illicit money, with the intention of purchasing his mother Gail’s (Helen Worth) property. Now, speculation is rife among fans that David might use the money to invest in the Rovers – and potentially move in.
In a discussion on Reddit, one user pondered: “Time For New Rovers Owners? Who Should It Be?” Another suggested: “David. Lol. That would be interesting!” A third contributed: “Yeah David and Shona would be good.”
Yet another added: “David, Shona, Max and Lilly. Have two move out and they can live in rovers return. I don’t want David to go to prison he is not a bad person and Shona will be landlady.”
