Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star Kevin Kane has been bumped up to a series regular after two seasons of recurring appearances on the popular NBC drama.
Kevin quickly became a fan favourite with his portrayal of Detective Terry Bruno, who first appeared in season 24.
He’s earned his stripes under Captain Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and is now set to be a fixture in the New York squad room.
Initially assisting with a case in the Bronx, he transitioned to Manhattan, where he will continue to delve into the city’s most harrowing crimes.
The actor shared his excitement over the promotion on Instagram, giving a special shout-out to Mariska for her support.
In a March interview with TVLine, he expressed his gratitude: “I feel like [Mariska] kind of put a little heavy hand on the scale when this character came up…
“Because a couple years ago, she directed an episode that I was one of the guest leads of. So, that’s where we really bonded.”
His standout performance in the season 20 episode Mea Culpa, where he played the spouse of a woman accusing Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) of assault, clearly left a mark on the showrunners.
Fans have been vocal in their support for Kevin’s well-deserved promotion, flooding social media with congratulatory messages.
One fan commented on his Instagram announcement: “Congratulations! So glad we get to see more of Detective Bruno!”
Another fan couldn’t hide t heir enthusiasm: “YES! Makes my day! You so deserve to be a series regular Kevin!”
An excited fan on X (formally known as Twitter ) enthused: “FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for this to happen since he joined the show.”
Another viewer proclaimed: “About time!!!” A separate user chimed in with: “They finally promoted Bruno.”
A further follower exclaimed: “I. AM. SCREAMING. SO excited about this – he was a great addition from the first episode he appeared – the dynamic with Ice is great, I love this bit!”
Next season will also see Juliana Aiden Martinez joining the SVU cast to play a new detective.
Additionally, TV veteran Maura Tierney, widely recognised from ER, has signed up as a fresh-face lieutenant for the flagship series.
Though details about these new characters are currently kept secret, fans can expect more information as the show’s October return approaches.
