Law and Order SVU’s Amanda Rollins star teases dramatic return with ‘two major changes’
Fans of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit were left heartbroken when Amanda Rollins bid farewell as a main character in the middle of the show’s 24th season, but there’s good news on the horizon for fans
Law and Order: SVU enthusiasts were left stunned when Kelli Giddish, who portrays Amanda Rollins, took her leave from the series during its 24th season on NBC.
Despite the outcry from fans eager for her comeback, Rollins has only made occasional appearances since exiting her detective duties and marrying Dominic Carisi (played by Peter Scanavino).
However, there’s a silver lining for viewers as Kelli is slated to reprise her role in an exhilarating new career phase. Rollins will return to the fray on October 24, following closely behind the season premiere on October 3.
In a chat with TVInsider, Kelli dished on what’s next for Rollins: “Rollins and her new partner are investigating a crew of crime tourists, which are bad guys that fly into towns and cities, do a lot of damage, and are back on a plane within 48 hours,” she revealed, “Rollins loves her new job. She says it’s like getting to eavesdrop on the whole world.”
Kelli also expressed, “And I feel like she’s really happy, and it’s fun to play that version of Rollins”, reports the Mirror.
Following a stint without work, Rollins is gearing up for a new beginning as a sergeant in the NYPD’s Intelligence Unit.
David Graziona, the showrunner, spilled to TVLine earlier this month about how unique this unit is: “is very different from the Intelligence Unit anywhere else because the Intelligence Unit in New York has cops stationed in almost every country in the world.”
The buzz is building as fans eagerly await the introduction of her new partner on screen, played by John Clarence Stewart of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist fame.
John steps into the role of Detective Vince Corgan, and their off-screen encounter was just as captivating. Kelli gushed about meeting her new colleague, sharing a surprising connection: “I didn’t know him before this, so I looked him up and I was happy to see that we were born in the same exact town in Georgia.”
Kelli opened up about the thrill of exploring new dynamics, stating: “It was fun to play and find a new chemistry with a new partner after all the years of being with the SVU crew.”
She also expressed enthusiasm for her evolved character: “And it’s so weird to hear ‘Sergeant’ Rollins this time around, and to wear a different badge. I have to say I didn’t mind it!”
Dedicated SVU followers are holding out hope for Kelli’s more entrenched return, buzzing with speculation that her current stint in season 26 may be a teaser for future regular appearances.
