When it comes to reputation, Captain Olivia Benson isn’t in the business of preserving it on Law & Order: SVU.
At least, not when it comes to a business where a rape has potentially occurred.
She doesn’t care if there’s a scandal over the business, as she will always put the victims first, and she proves that in this exclusive sneak peek of Law & Order: SVU Season 27 Episode 15 that NBC has given TV Fanatic.
Benson Is Quick to Act
The clip comes early in the Law & Order: SVU episode, as Benson and her team catch up on why they’ve been called in.
A hotel lobby is packed with people, and while that wouldn’t be all that uncommon, it’s far busier than usual.
There’s a fan convention happening, and that means a lot more guests than the hotel is used to.
Of course, the hotel wants to preserve some reputation, both for their regular business and for the convention itself.
Benson doesn’t care, and nor should she.
Protecting reputations increases the chance that the assailant will escape, and she’s not letting that happen.
Just take a look at the way she takes control and makes it clear that she’s not messing around in the sneak peek:
It’s clear the hotel manager isn’t happy with how Benson is handling things.
Maybe if he had some footage that could help the situation, Benson could have considered working a little more quietly.
However, he clearly doesn’t even believe the rape happened, judging by his wording.
The way he says that nobody was seen leaving the 15th floor, while also saying that there are no cameras in the elevator, raises the question of whether he’s hiding something.
Does he know what really happened, or does he really care more about reputation than anything else?
Sadly, he has an opinion that so many people have in real life.
He cares more about his job and the comfort of others at the convention than he does about the real victim.
Just hear the way he whispers rape, as if it’s some terrible and dangerous word — it’s not the word but the action that makes it terrible, and victims deserve to be protected and helped.
I will say that the way people are crowding around and listening in on Benson’s conversation is realistic.
Who doesn’t get intrigued when there’s clearly some sort of drama going on?
When Assault Becomes Murder
The hotel’s reputation will be further affected as the episode continues.

What’s not clear is who turns up dead and why.
Could it be the assailant that Benson and her team will need to catch, or will the rape victim turn up dead as an act of revenge?
If it is the assailant, it will raise an interesting topic: vigilante justice.
Is the wrong thing done for the “right” reason ever the right thing?
There are plenty of debates about that topic, and we have seen the Law & Order franchise address it from time to time.
Benson is always quick to take control of a situation and do things her way.
It’s not always right, but in the case of this sneak peek, it most definitely is.
