Major Coronation Street romance well and truly scuppered by unexpected exit
In one of those sad cases where a romance ends before it’s even had time to get going, Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) is set to leave Coronation Street for a new job in Dublin – leaving Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) heartbroken as a result.
When he discovered that she’d got the job in Dublin, Adam realised he was going to miss her – as in, properly miss her. Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) teased him after noticing he had a crush on Alya.
As the two were working together on a joint case, there were obvious strong currents of feeling between them as they kept exchanging glances and looking away. Finally Adam admitted that he had feelings for Alya and they kissed.
This was awful timing though, as at that moment Rich (Jamie Cho), Alya’s new boss, walked into the office to find the couple in a passionate embrace. Shocked, he told Alya that this unprofessional behaviour had made him question whether she was the right person for the job in Dublin.
Alya was devastated. Trying to make things right for her, Adam attempted to plead her case with Rich but didn’t seem to make much headway.
Upcoming episodes see Alya still troubled about the kiss and how it ruined her career prospects. There’s a turnaround, though, when Rich meets up with her and tells her he’s had a change of heart. After Adam insisting that the whole misunderstanding was his fault, Rich tells Alya that the job in Dublin is still hers if she wants it.
The day comes for Alya to leave for her new life in Dublin. Yasmeen speculates that she’s going to miss Adam, and that certainly seems to be the case.
Alya’s emotional as Adam hands her an expensive law book as a parting gift and wishes her future success and happiness.
Alya is torn, not knowing whether she wants to stay or go. But as Alya will be absent from the show for some time while Sair Khan is on maternity leave, chances are Alya will be heading to Dublin – leaving unlucky-in-love Adam to nurse a broken heart yet again.
