Netflix Accidentally Teases The Addams Family Mansion In Wednesday Season 2: Here’s What That Means

Wednesday season 2’s Addams Family mansion tease may have been randomly revealed, but it has interesting implications for where the story is heading.

Plans for the Addams Family mansion to appear in Wednesday season 2 may have been accidentally revealed, but the tease makes Netflix’s follow-up installment more intriguing. The mansion, of course, was the primary setting for previous live-action adaptations of the macabre family, including The Addams Family TV show and the two popular movies from the ’90s. The house was canonically located in New Jersey as a way to honor the Addams Family creator and Jersey resident, Charles Addams.

Netflix’s Wednesday confirmed that the titular character and her family resided in New Jersey, but the 2022 show never showed the spooky mansion. In fact, the entire first season was set in the town of Jericho, Vermont, and, more specifically, Nevermore Academy. After the opening piranha sequence that saw Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday get expelled, the show quickly switched to the Vermont setting to follow the teen’s journey as Nevermore’s newest student. Even when Wednesday’s family was involved in the plot, including the murder mystery that involved her parents, Morticia and Gomez, the fellow Addams members visited Vermont rather than show Wednesday go home. Therefore, Wednesday season 1 never included the notorious Addams Family mansion.

Wednesday Season 2’s Morticia Costume Reveal Teases The Addams Family Mansion

While Netflix confirmed Wednesday season 2 is on the way, it’s still unclear when the follow-up installment will drop. Even though details about what’s to come have been few and far between, Netflix may have let a big detail slip thanks to costume designer Colleen Atwood. When discussing costume designs, a Wednesday season 2 detail teased the Addams Family mansion would be involved in the upcoming story. Atwood, in particular, teased Morticia’s upcoming looks, saying, “it’ll be really fun to see what Morticia does when she’s, you know, out of the dress and into around-the-house looks.” This means Wednesday season 2 won’t be restricted to Jericho and, more importantly, Nevermore Academy.

The Addams Family mansion has always been a significant element for all adaptations, so it was surprising that the location was left out of Wednesday season 1. That said, it makes sense why the debut season pushed Wednesday to her new school so quickly, considering the show embraced the fish-out-of-water scenario. Netflix may have offered a bigger budget for Wednesday season 2 to work with, so featuring such a prominent setting in Addams Family lore was likely at the top of the list if the story continued.

Why It’s Good Wednesday Season 2 Won’t Just Be Set At Nevermore Academy

By featuring the mansion, Wednesday season 2 will have the chance to see new sides of Ortega’s character, as well as others like Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, and Thing. Seeing Wednesday handle Nevermore Academy was fitting for season 1, but relying on the school too much will get stale fast. Moving the story to the Addams home allows the Netflix show to dive deeper into the origins of the eccentric family. It also opens the door for more Addams Family characters to appear in Wednesday season 2.

Based on previous teases for Wednesday season 2, Nevermore Academy will likely still be heavily featured, so it’s difficult to predict how much the mansion will come into play. A likely scenario would be to have Wednesday return home for some kind of school break. Though that would limit her time in the mansion, it ties in more family members to the central story and gives notable characters a chance to appear. Uncle Fester’s appearance was a highlight of Wednesday season 1, but season 2 could easily feature characters like Grandmama or Cousin Itt. Either way, the mansion’s involvement opens a lot of doors for Wednesday season 2.
