Outlander boss confesses ‘no one’ loves Rollo and Adso as Caitriona Balfe admits ‘chaos’

Outlander star Caitriona Balfe admitted having the beloved Fraser pets meant “chaos” for the cast and crew.

An Outlander boss has admitted exactly why “no one loves” Rollo and Adso behind the scenes.

The Starz time travel drama has seen Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitriona Balfe) life take a complete U-turn from a Second World War nurse to living in the 18th Century with her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

There have been plenty of changes throughout its seven-season history, including some new additions welcomed along the way.

One of which was back in season four when Young Ian won his half-wolf companion Rollo in a game of dice.

It was then in the following series that Jamie found Adso, a small British Blue kitten in an alleyway and brought him home as a present to Claire.

Even though fans love any scenes that feature Rollo and Adso, neither Balfe nor executive producer Maril Davis are keen on the animal cast members.

While speaking at the ATX TV Festival in a segment called The Women of Outlander, the pair admitted how they really felt about working with the furry stars.

“We’re all dog and cat and animal lovers but no one loves an animal on the show,” Davis stated.

“It just causes chaos. And I don’t care how many times people say ‘no but they’re trained’, like no.”

“They don’t care we’re making a show, they’re like ‘s***w you, I don’t care’.

“‘But we’re giving you chicken?’ ‘So? I’ll take the chicken and I’ll do what I want.’”

Maril went on to state there must have been about “a hundred” outtakes of Rollo looking in the “opposite direction we want him to”.

Thankfully, Adso causes fewer problems for everyone on the Outlander set.

Balfe added: “Adso just kind of hangs out, he’s a cat, he doesn’t give a s**t either but he gives a s**t in a really sedentary way.”

There is still the second half of the Starz series left to look forward to which is expected to debut sometime in early 2024.
