RUMOR: Lucasfilm Has Plans For The Mandalorian & Grogu To Be A Trilogy, But On One Condition

The Mandalorian has been one of the most popular Star Wars projects in modern times, with Disney and Lucasfilm proving that the franchise can still be entertaining in this day and age. While fans might have mixed feelings toward the most recent trilogy of movies, The Mandalorian has received overwhelmingly positive praise to the point a movie is being created.
Lucasfilm has decided it’s worth taking this series to the big screen, with The Mandalorian & Grogu set to be released on May 22, 2026. While fans eagerly await that one movie, it appears that Lucasfilm is now set on turning this into a larger individual franchise.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm intends to turn The Mandalorian & Grogu into a trilogy even though the first movie hasn’t even been released. However, there is a condition on Lucasfilm’s significant plans for these characters, which is down to how the first film performs. This will likely go down to both the critical and fan response, but mainly due to the box office results overall, as Lucasfilm will want proof that the movies will be a financial success for it to be worth creating further movies.
Of course, Lucasfilm is already taking a risk in creating The Mandalorian & Grogu in the first place. Transforming a television series into a movie isn’t easy due to the distinct differences that come from those media. It isn’t as simple as transferring the characters from the Disney Plus series to a movie format, as that’s not a guarantee for success. However, audiences are already invested in the lead characters, and the backstory is detailed and developed, meaning Lucasfilm simply needs to transform it and place everything on a grander scale to ensure that this risk ends up being a gamble worth taking.
