‘The Wheel of Time’ Fans Begin Elaborate Campaign to Save Series

Following the news that Amazon decided not to renew The Wheel of Time for a fourth season, fans are banding together to help save the series. A recently created petition that can be found at savewot.com has garnered over 55,000 signatures from viewers hoping that another streaming platform will pick up and continue from where Amazon left off.
In addition to signing the petition, the website also gives fans the chance to submit videos and pen “love letters” to the series to talk about the way it impacted their lives. “You were more than a show,” begins one letter written by a user named Chris, who adds: “You were a feeling. A rhythm. A pulse. A beautiful, sprawling tapestry that wove together ancient prophecy, human longing, and the quiet power of choice. Every thread — whether glistening or grim — was woven with care.” Another written by Brian continues:
“Amazon. Sony. I know it’s all about money. But… It’s really not. You see, there are millions of us out here that love these characters and this series like family. We cherish them. We are fully invested in this show. We love the cast. We love the sets. We love the costuming. We love the music. WE WANT MORE! We’ve been waiting, many of us, our whole lives for this. Please don’t let this die. Not now. Not when you’ve hit your creative stride. This show deserves better. The fans deserve better. The cast and crew deserve to see this through.”
Speaking of “creative stride,” the well-organized website also highlights the fact that The Wheel of Time Season 3 was the best one yet, at least in terms of its critical acclaim. A chart examining how it stacks up against recent seasons of House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power, and The Witcher plainly shows The Wheel of Time out in front with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is head and shoulders above the rest. All-in-all, it’s a tremendously well-thought-out campaign, and even if it doesn’t manage to bear any fruit, it’s clear the series still has a passionate fan base that’s with it to the bitter end.
Why Was ‘The Wheel of Time’ Canceled?
Word broke last week that Amazon had decided not to renew the big-budget fantasy series following “lengthy deliberations” about its future. In the end, it was economics that sent The Wheel of Time to the chopping block, as its ROI just wasn’t high enough to justify the costs it would take to keep it running. The price tag for Seasons 1 and 2 cost upwards of $260 million, making it one of the most expensive shows in history. A report by Forbes revealed that if the series had kept going the way it was, production costs would have reached half a billion dollars by Season 4.
Sadly, there’s been no news of interest from another streaming service in picking up The Wheel of Time to continue the story, but that could change in the future. Apple, who has the means and the money to produce further seasons for Apple TV+, is really the only viable option right now, so fingers crossed that they’re listening to all the passionate fans that want the series to continue. Until we hear more, you can stream all three seasons now on Prime Video.
