‘The Witcher’ Fans, Get Ready for This Henry Cavill News: It’s Seriously Epic
Alas, Henry Cavill’s time on The Witcher has come to an end — but lucky for fans, he’ll be back soon enough.
Last fall, the actor shocked Witcher fans when announcing he’d step down from the leading role as Geralt de Rivia and “pass the torch” to Liam Hemsworth beginning season 4. The Enola Holmes star hadn’t commented much on the matter since then. However, just four days before the third installment’s premiere on June 29, Henry finally made some noise on Instagram. A photo showed the Man of Steel alum outdoors somewhere he dubbed his “happy place” alongside his pup Baggins. He wrote in the caption: “Cooking away in the Wild Kitchen with my lady and my hounds.”
That said, it was his next words that struck a chord with Witcher fans: “I just wanted to take a moment to say, officially, to the fans I met and stood in front of in Brazil, and Poland recently, that you have touched my heart. Thank you so very much. I want you to know that you are greatly appreciated. Thank you.”
Folks expressed mixed reactions of sadness and support under the post. “Don’t leave The Witcher 😭,” one person wrote. “Grateful that you have played Geralt de Rivia, and I will be here supporting your new works. ❤️,” another added. “I can’t wait to see what you do next! ❤️,” a different person said.
While Henry won’t be trying on his Superman suit as expected, he’s kept busy since news of his departure. His big new project? A spy thriller film called Argylle that will debut on Apple TV. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the new movie will premiere February 2, 2024 and also star Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L. Jackson. There have been no updates on the project lately, but Henry has let his fans know to keep an eye out for more announcements on social media.
Seems like his Witcher cast mates are wishing him well in the meantime. When former co-star Anya Chalotra was asked by Digital Spy this summer about the changing of guards on the series, she said: “At some point, that had to come to an end, his portrayal of Geralt, and that’s been incredible.”
The actress, who plays Yennefer, added: “We’ve had such a wonderful time with him. But also bringing in new people to this journey we’re on is so exciting at this stage.”
Looking ahead, showrunner Lauren Hissrich teased to Entertainment Weekly that, “Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season four.” Lauren also added, “He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.”
Big changes happening for both The Witcher and Henry — all exciting, though!
