The Witcher: Geralt and Yennefer Train Ciri in Season 3 BTS Footage
The latest featurette for Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3 shows Geralt and Yennefer training Ciri for an incoming threat.
Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher Season 3 has received a brand-new featurette, teasing much higher stakes for Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri.
Shared by IGN, the video features a new behind-the-scenes look at the highly-anticipated next season of Netflix’s hit fantasy series, promising a more faithful adaptation of The Witcher books. It shows Geralt and Yennefer preparing Ciri for the dangerous threat that’s coming for them, improving her combat skills and honing her magical abilities. The cast and executive producers also discussed the much larger scope of Season 3, as different storylines from previous installments begin to converge.
Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s second novel Time of Contempt, The Witcher Season 3 is once again led by Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan, as they reprise their respective roles as Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Ciri of Cintra. Joining them are Joey Batey as Jaskier, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Myanna Buring as Tissaia, and more. This marks Cavill’s final season as the titular monster hunter, with Hunger Games alum Liam Hemsworth set to replace him in the fourth and fifth installments.
After deciding to leave Kaer Morhen for Ciri’s safety during the Season 2 finale, the next chapter finds the leading trio as a reunited family, who will do everything they can to prevent losing each other. In a previous interview, Cavill teased Geralt’s character transformation from being an indifferent warrior to becoming a protective father figure. “Geralt has been very nonchalant about these threats of war and famine and the end times [in previous seasons],” he said. “He’s like, ‘Look. I’ve been there, done that. It’s not the end times. It’s just going to be another fight’… [but in Season 3] everyone is after Ciri. That changes his entire perspective on things.”
What’s Next for The Witcher Franchise
Apart from green-lighting additional seasons of the original show, Netflix hasn’t made any official announcements regarding their plans for more Witcher spinoffs, following the release of the prequel miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin which starred Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh. However, a previous report suggested that Netflix might be producing another live-action spinoff series, which was rumored to be about the controversial gang from the novel series called, the Rats. This rumor recently gained traction after Aquaman star Dolph Lundgren recently spoiled his involvement in an unknown The Witcher project, which he is currently filming in South Africa.
