TV icon sparks Coronation Street return rumours alongside cobbles legend

Former Coronation Street star Melanie Hill has sparked rumours she will return to the show alongside David Neilson.

Melanie currently portrays Siobhan Mackenzie in BBC One’s Casualty.

‘I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan’, she said at the time.

‘She’s a supremely competent manager, who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team. However, get on the wrong side of her and she’ll make mincemeat out of you! I’m sure she’s going to ruffle a few feathers in the Emergency Department.’

Prior to her arrival in the medical drama, Melanie played Cathy Matthews in Corrie – former partner of Roy Cropper and Brian Packham.

Cathy arrived in 2015 and became an compulsive hoarder following the death of her husband Alan one year prior. In 2022, she departed the cobbles and moved to Cornwall, with Melanie choosing to leave the ITV soap to ‘focus on her family’.

Roy was in need of some respite from Weatherfield after being behind bars for most of this year. The beloved face was arrested and very nearly charged for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), until a situation arose that saw Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) framed for the crime instead.

After his heart attack, Roy returned home but struggled to adapt to life as the much-loved resident and café owner. Wanting time away, Roy then left for Scarborough, looking forward to catching up with Cathy for a few days.

Recently, actress Melanie Hill took to Instagram to share a picture alongside David Neilson. Clearly keeping up with the latest Weatherfield drama, she captioned the post: ‘Greetings from Scarborough’ and ‘He’s feeling much better! It’s the sea air’.

While this image was shared more than likely after the two friends met up outside of work, we can’t help feel if this might be clue Cathy could return to our screens soon.

As it stands, Siobhan is showing no sign of wanting to depart Holby ED and her role as Clinical Lead in Casualty – but could that all change?
