TV legend makes unexpected ‘return’ to Coronation Street after years as she films on location
TV legend Kym Marsh has made an unexpected return to Coronation Street five years after leaving the show.
The actress, singer and presenter took to her Instagram stories to reveal that she is currently filming on location in Manchester’s Media City, just across the water from the Coronation Street set.
‘Filming something today on location and it’s brought me back to my roots,’ she wrote in the caption of the video, which showed her view of the ITV studios.
‘Look where I am – by my old place of work. Hi Corrie!’ She said.
Kym starred as the iconic Michelle Connor from 2006 until 2019, and during that time was involved in some major storylines.
From finding out her brother killed her first husband, to discovering that her son had been switched at birth, Michelle’s first few years on the cobbles were dramatic, to say the least!
In the years that followed, she had romances with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill), was involved in 2015’s dramatic minibus crash, kidnapped by a stalker and shot at her wedding.
One of her most powerful storylines, however, saw Michelle tragically lose her son, Ruairi when he was born at just 23 weeks. Because of the hospital’s policy, doctors were unable to intervene when the baby was born not breathing and he sadly passed away.
The storyline mirrored actress Kym’s own experience, after losing son Archie in 2009, and was praised in the House of Commons for the awareness it raised for the issue.
In 2019, it was announced that Kym would be taking a break from the cobbles, and her exit storyline was certainly a dramatic one.
It saw her embroiled in a love triangle with Robert and Vicky Jefferies (Kerri Quinn). Both women believed that they were in a monogamous relationship with the chef and had no idea that he was secretly seeing them both.
Eventually, Michelle caught Robert out for his lies when she caught him visiting pregnant Vicky and the fireworks began.
Furious at having been taken for a fool, Michelle and Vicky planned an elaborate revenge scheme that began with Michelle persuading Robert to put the Bistro in her name.
After that, she jilted him at the altar in front of all their friends and family, exposing him for his betrayal and deceit.
As if that weren’t enough, Vicky suspiciously went missing, and Robert was blamed for her murder.
It later transpired that Michelle was hiding her as part of their revenge plot, hoping to get Robert sent down for a crime he hadn’t committed.
Things fell apart when Vicky went into premature labour and Michelle was forced to deliver baby Sonny.
Following the birth of his son, Robert was unexpectedly shot on Christmas Day, leaving both women heartbroken and guilty.
In need of a fresh start, Michelle moved back to Ireland, where she has remained ever since.
Following her exit from the ITV soap, Kym has had a whole host of roles in TV and theatre.
As well as being a presenter for BBC Morning Live, she is currently starring as Nicky Walters in Waterloo Road.
She recently toured the UK as Cruella De Ville in 101 Dalmatians: The Musical, following successful stints in Greatest Days and Fatal Attraction, and appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.
