Coronation Street

TV legend open to Coronation Street return: ‘Maybe one day!’

Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh isn’t ruling out a future return to the cobbles, and we would love to see her back.

The Michelle Connor actress left the iconic soap in 2019, after 13 eventful years.

After arriving on the street in 2006 – originally just for four episodes – Michelle soon became a part of the furniture.

The unlucky-in-love barmaid saw her fair share of heartbreak, starting with the discovery that fiancé Sonny Dhillon was secretly seeing Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) behind her back.

She face further heartbreak when she learnt that son Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) had been swapped at birth during a hospital mix up, and struggled to bond with biological son Ali Neeson for several years.

Her on-and-off relationship with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) captured fans’ hearts, as well as her close friendship with formidable factory boss Carla Connor (Alison King).

One of her biggest storylines saw her tragically lose son Ruairi when he was born prematurely, only to face further devastation after discovering that Steve had fathered Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) son Oliver.

In the years that followed, she was terrorised by childhood-boyfriend-turned-stalker Will Chatterton, taken hostage and shot by serial killer Pat Phelan at her own wedding, and targeted by dangerous gangster Ronan Truman.

Her final storyline saw her discover that fiancé Robert Preston had been living a double life, and was expecting a baby with Vicky Jefferies.

The two women quickly teamed up and concocted a plan to get their own backs on Robert by faking Vicky’s death and framing him for her murder.

However, their plan was halted when Vicky went into early labour, and Michelle helped to deliver the baby.

Tragedy struck when Robert was shot before getting the chance to meet his son, and devastated Michelle and Vicky left Weatherfield soon after.

Fortunately for fans of the character, Kym is open to a return to Corrie, as she told The Sun at the TV Choice Awards.

‘I’d never say never to going back as I absolutely adore Coronation Street and I had some of my best years there,’ she said.

‘I learned so much on that show and I made so many friends.

‘But I left to kind of pursue other projects and I’m still in the middle of doing that, but, maybe one day!’

Since leaving the cobbles, Kym has turned her hand to presenting, as well as going back to her roots as a singer in numerous musicals.

She has been a regular face on BBC Morning Live, competed in Strictly Come Dancing and toured the country in stage shows Fatal Attraction, Greatest Days and, most recently, 101 Dalmatians.

She is also currently starring in school-based drama Waterloo Road as kitchen manager and mum Nicky Walters.

‘Filming something today on location and it’s brought me back to my roots,’ she wrote in the caption of the video, which showed her view of the ITV studios.

‘Look where I am – by my old place of work. Hi Corrie!’ She said.

Perhaps one day we can look forward to a real return for Michelle Connor!
