Witcher Season 3 Trailer Finally Teases Jaskier’s Missing Story
The Witcher season 3’s trailer promises to resolve Jaskier’s missing story and continue his Witcher season 2 ending with an exciting new character.
The Witcher season 3’s trailer has finally teased the resolution of Jaskier’s missing story arc. The Witcher season 3 will be critical to the franchise’s future because of Henry Cavill’s imminent departure and the relative failure of the prequel series, Blood Origin. Indeed, the franchise seems to be at a crossroads of sorts that could spell the end of the Netflix fantasy series if The Witcher season 3 should flop. A strong season 3 will be required to breathe new life into The Witcher franchise and reinvigorate Netflix’s hopes of making it a wide-ranging, long-term project.
The Witcher season 2 provides an interesting arc for one of its fan favorites, Jaskier, which ends with the Redanian spymaster, Dijkstra, seemingly gunning for the bard. Dijkstra knows that Geralt and Jaskier are close, and sees the eccentric bard as a means of tracking down Geralt, and more importantly, Ciri. By this point in The Witcher’s story, everyone is after Ciri, and nobody tied to her can remain safe for long, not even Jaskier.
The Witcher Trailer Proves Season 3 Is Paying Off Jaskier’s S2 Ending
The Witcher season 3’s trailer shows that Jaskier’s The Witcher season 2 ending will be continued by showing the sorceress, Phillipa, threatening the bard. Phillipa is in league with Dijkstra, and the two of them seek to capture Ciri and use her name and power to further their own interests. Jaskier has intimate knowledge of Geralt and Ciri’s relationship and often knows where to find the princess, making him a target for those who seek to exploit Ciri’s power as a child of the Elder Blood.
Blood Origin seemed to gloss over this storyline by showing Jaskier in the middle of a terrible, yet unexplained battle. He is saved by the prequel’s narrator, who tells him the story of the first version of a Witcher and the creation of the Elder Bloodline. Jaskier is presumably captured before ending up in this battle, but nothing is ever explained in concrete terms. The Witcher season 3 story could opt to explain this conflict, or just continue Dijkstra’s pursuit of the bard by using Phillipa to track him down. At the least, The Witcher season 3 should resolve Jaskier’s season 2 ending.
Will The Witcher Season 3 Ignore Jaskier’s Blood Origin Cameo?
The Witcher season 3 definitely should explain Jaskier’s cameo in Blood Origin but is far from certain that it will. The series has had a tendency to leave things unexplained or less than fully hashed out. Jaskier’s presence in a battle during Blood Origin seems like something that would be explained in The Witcher season 3, but it’s entirely possible that show just ignores it and leaves that scene as solely part of the prequel. The battle seems to be part of the war between Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms, so it could easily fit into the main series’ story, but that doesn’t mean it will be.
