Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney reveals fears fans won’t support her on Dancing on Ice
Soap icon Claire Sweeney has admitted that she’s concerned Coronation Street viewers won’t support her on Dancing on Ice due to her Weatherfield character’s troublesome behaviour
Claire Sweeney is worried Coronation Street fans won’t support her on Dancing on Ice.
The ITV soap star, who is partnered with Colin Grafton on the skating show, has admitted she’s concerned her character in the cobbles may affect viewers’ initial perception of her on the ice. Claire arrived in Weatherfield last year as Cassie Plumber, the long-lost mother of stalwart Tyrone Dobbs.
Cassie has caused her fair share of trouble on the cobbles during her time in Coronation Street so far and soap icon Claire confessed this may impact whether ITV soap fans will want to keep her on the ice. She said: “My character is a bit unpleasant at times, so I don’t know how that’ll affect me with the judging and voting! With my character everything comes from good but then things go wrong for her!”
Claire confessed she was left “scared” when Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb was forced to withdraw from the competition due to injury. She said: “I think there’s a lot of training that goes into it and it’s the power of the mind. There’s so much about your mind. I’m not going to lie, when Stephen from Gogglebox had that accident, it set me back. I got scared. I’m the same age as Stephen. I got scared. When you get a bit older, you don’t bounce up so quick and I think it’s really set me back in my mind.”
The soap star went on to admit she isn’t too worried about the judges and is looking forward to learning from their critiques. She said: “I’m not bothered about that because I don’t know what I’m doing.
“I’m learning from scratch, so you can only learn from the critique. These people are the best at what they do, so I’d be a fool not to listen to them. It’s a kind, nurturing, feel good show.
“Whatever they say is going to be with our best interest at heart and you just can’t take it personally. You just listen to it and go, “Okay, they’ve got a good note there.” I’m used to taking notes on set. We take notes on stage and you get directed. Someone sitting giving you notes can be nothing but good for you.”
Claire will be competing against former boxer Ricky Hatton, S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, Love Island’s Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, Made In Chelsea star Miles Nazaire and former EastEnders actor Ricky Norwood.
Comedian Lou Sanders, Radio DJ Adele Roberts, Emmerdale’s Roxy Shahidi and Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas will also take to the ice while Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards stepped in after Gogglebox’s Stephen Lustig-Webb dropped out due to injury.
