Brooke Vincent addresses Coronation Street return as she says what would be ‘devastating’
As fans will know, the actress is famed for playing Sophie Webster in the ITV soap
Brooke Vincent has spoken about her exit from Coronation Street and whether she would return as she takes on new challenges away from the cobbles. As fans will know, the actress is famed for playing Sophie Webster in the ITV soap.
While she is no longer under contract with the long-running soap, the door has been left open for her character to return after Sophie left in the back of a taxi in October 2019.
Brooke’s exit from Weatherfield came ahead of the birth of her first child, Mexx, who was born in October 2019. Then, in May 2021, Brooke gave birth to her second son, Monroe, with her footballer fiancé Kean Bryan.
Previously asked about returning to Corrie back in August 2021, Brooke said: “I’m just being a mum and getting myself back and trying to get us into a routine and focusing on them. It’s kind of a decision that we made as a family and it’s just nice to have that special time with them without having major distractions.”
Now, Brooke has returned to her acting roots and while she’s not in front of the camera, she has been taking to the stage in The Syndicate, the play based on the late Kay Mellor’s hit BBC One show of the same name.
The play will tell the story of five supermarket workers whose lottery syndicate numbers come in just as their jobs and livelihoods are under threat. It is being directed by Kay’s daughter and former Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye in her late mum’s name.
Brooke is playing Amy, the sister-in-law of supermarket assistant Jamie, who will be played by Gaynor’s son Oliver Anthony in his theatrical debut after singer Max George was forced to withdraw from the role. The UK tour kicked off last month (April) with the cast, which also includes Emmerdale’s former Bernice Blackstock star Samantha Giles, recently completing a run in Kay and Gaynor’s home city of Leeds before moving on to other venues before Brooke will arrive on home turf and perform at The Lowry later this month.
But, Brooke has now hinted that she would love to return to Corrie – but would be devastated to learn her character would be killed. Brooke – who effectively grew up on the set of the show – has described the cast and crew of the soap as being like her family.
Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous team, Brooke shared her thoughts on returning to Corrie – and her fears her time on the show could end for good. She said: “Corrie was my home – it still is my home – and I feel like I’ve just gone off to university to do my little thing for a while! I never wanted to leave, because I panic about saying goodbye.
“It’s been a massive part of my life and the people that I worked with are like a family.” She added: “So although I’m not [talking about] a comeback, I don’t want them to ring and say: ‘We’re killing you off!’ either. That would be devastating!”
