If This Is Henry Cavill’s Geralt Replacement, I’m Happy He Left The Witcher

I was as disappointed as anyone when Henry Cavill left The Witcher, yet if a recent cameo from the actor is anything to go by, I’ll be happy about its replacement. The Witcher is an interesting case study, given that the show began so promisingly. While season 1’s timeline was somewhat confusing, it was overall a good introduction to the world and The Witcher’s varied cast of characters. I was then happy to discover that The Witcher season 2 almost matched its predecessor, if not quite on the same level. However, my enjoyment of the show dwindled with the news of Henry Cavill’s The Witcher exit.

Many would agree with me when I say that The Witcher’s cast is one of its strongest aspects, even in the weaker season 3, and Cavill typifies this even more than his already-compelling costars. Nonetheless, The Witcher season 3’s ending marked the conclusion of Cavill’s time as Geralt, with his replacement, Liam Hemsworth, taking over for The Witcher season 4. While the disappointment of Cavill’s exit has hung over the show and hindered its reception due to the sheer disappointment, I will be ecstatic if a recent cameo from the actor is his replacement for The Witcher.

Wolverine Would Be Henry Cavill’s Perfect Replacement To Geralt

In 2024, Henry Cavill appeared as one of the surprise Marvel cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. The Marvel Cinematic Universe film dealt heavily with the topic of the multiverse, with one sequence featuring Deadpool traveling across various timelines to find a variant of Wolverine to help him. One of the variants is played by none other than Henry Cavill himself, with the character only appearing for a brief moment before Deadpool is removed from that universe.

The cameo is one of the more surprising in the movie, especially given Cavill was the face of the franchise’s main rival – the DCEU – when he played Superm an. Surprising or not, I cannot help but face the reality that Wolverine would be a perfect replacement for Cavill after losing the role of Geralt. It is unclear if Cavill will return as Wolverine in the future, or if it was simply a one-off scene to allow Deadpool’s meta humor to shine through, but the MCU could easily be Cavill’s next major franchise after the DCEU and The Witcher.

Henry Cavill’s Wolverine Could Bring Back Some Of Geralt’s Traits

Aside from being another major franchise for Cavill, Wolverine will allow the actor to transfer some of the traits he had already mastered as Geralt to the role. Geralt and Wolverine are very similar in many ways; both are gruff, hard men on the exterior, though with a heart of gold and a vulnerable softness beneath the surface. As I alluded to earlier, Cavill perfected this style of character with Geralt thanks to his dominating, intimidating presence that offset his more loving, caring side when interacting with Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra as Ciri and Yennefer respectively.

On top of the similar personalities Geralt and Wolverine have, the physicality of the former would aid Cavill in the latter. Geralt was shown to be an expert fighter in The Witcher, with Cavill putting great emphasis on performing the action sequences himself. Geralt’s fight scenes were always the best in The Witcher, and Cavill could use the skills he learned to craft some fantastic Wolverine action moments. While the style of fighting is slightly different, that process of stuntwork and long, fluid fight choreography would remain, leading to another Geralt trait that would make Cavill perfect for the MCU’s prime Wolverine.

Henry Cavill Has Exciting Roles Coming Up (Even If Cavillrine Doesn’t Return)

I do want to mention again that Cavill’s appearance as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine could simply have been a way to poke fun at DC. It has not been confirmed that the actor will return in the role, nor is it expected that this reveal will come in the near future. As such, it is worth looking at the other exciting roles in Cavill’s future that remove some of the pressure of Wolverine being his replacement for The Witcher.

For one, Cavill is expected to star in the upcoming reboot of Highlander. The film. directed by John Wick veteran Chad Stahelski, could kickstart another franchise for Cavill if it is successful, allowing him to flourish in another medieval-inspired world. Secondly, Cavill is trying to get a passion project off the ground with Prime Video. This passion project is a TV show set in the world of Warhammer, a franchise Cavill is openly interested in. While recent reports have suggested the series may be in trouble, nothing is confirmed.

If Cavill can pour the amount of love he holds for that franchise into the project and everything goes smoothly, there is no denying it would be an exciting show. Hopefully, the Warhammer series will overcome its potential problems and give Cavill a lucky break, as he certainly deserves one after losing the role of Superman and Geralt in The Witcher in quick succession. Whether that lucky break will come in Warhammer, Highlander, or in the MCU after Deadpool & Wolverine remains to be seen. Regardless, Cavill’s future looks bright and removes some of my disappointment from when he left The Witcher.
