Mariska Hargitay has been on “Law & Order: SVU” for over 25 years at this point, but that historic run was almost cut short.
In an interview with Allure Magazine, she revealed her pixie haircut she debuted during season three was deemed too drastic by producers.
“My hairstylist had a glass of wine and I really should have known better,” she told the outlet. “Maybe he’d thought I’d be aerodynamic when I was chasing perps. I have no idea. We went real short—shorter than anticipated. I almost got fired.”
Looking back now, Mariska can see how the style could be viewed as “easy, cool, and cop-like” but she isn’t a fan.
When it comes to feeling good, the actress knows getting a good manicure always helps, but her taste isn’t the same as her cop alter ego.
“It’s not like anyone is going to compliment Olivia’s gels when she’s flashing her badge,” she said. “But I do always feel best with a fresh manicure. Many a not-so-great day has been saved by a great classic Chanel Red—just not while shooting.”
“Law & Order: SVU” season 27 is set to premiere September 27, on NBC, and fans are eagerly anticipating not only the new season, but a reunion between Mariska’s Olivia Benson and Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler.
Meloni teased the reunion last month on Instagram.
