‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Confirms Upcoming Crossover With Flagship Show

The Dick Wolf franchise Law & Order on NBC is already planning more crossovers after the last one “Play with Fire” between the flagship Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. That’s according to newly minted series regular Aimé Donna Kelly in a new interview with TV Line. The actress recently revealed that more crossovers (yes, plural) are in store for the franchise as SVU continues its record 27th Season. The flagship show, Law & Order, is also in its landmark 25th Season, so it’s no surprise there are big plans in store to celebrate the milestone. Kelly explains that there’s “Definitely going to have some crossovers. I don’t know the details of the crossover just yet, but I do know that they are in the works, so that’s exciting, too.” She reveals that “I’ve not done a crossover yet with what we call the mothership, Law & Order, the original.” Kelly says, “I’m super excited to meet those folks and to work with Tony Goldwyn. I mean, I’ve been such a fan of his, especially since the Scandal days, and I have not met him yet.” Goldwyn has previously guest-starred on SVU since joining the flagship series, but Kelly’s Captain Renee Curry and Goldwyn’s District Attorney Nicholas Baxter have yet to cross paths. He’s even slated to guest star in the next episode, per last night’s promo. She admits:

“So, the minute I get in the room, I’m probably going to say, “Hello, Mr. President,” which, whatever. It happens. [Laughs] So, I’m super excited about that. I cannot wait to work with him and meet him. That’s the one person that I’m like, I’m in the universe. I’m ready to meet you. Yeah, I’m hoping that happens.”

Kelly reveals that, as she continues her first season as a series regular since joining the series in Season 22, we’ll also get to see more of Captain Curry’s backstory. “You’re going to find out some stuff about who she was before she joined SVU and before she was even at IAB. You might get some family tidbits,” Kelly reveals. “Not going to say more than that. But yeah, it’s going to be really, really exciting, and I think you’re going to see more of that from a lot of the folks in the squad, which is great… So you’re going to see just more of their personalities and more humanity, which is awesome.” Kelly was upped to series regular for Season 27, not long after it was announced that Kelli Giddish would return as a series regular. Now, the characters are often paired up while still looking to Mariska Hargitay‘s Captain Olivia Benson as a “mentor.”

You can watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on Thursdays on NBC. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
