TAKING CENTER STAGE Mariska Hargitay announces unexpected career change after 26 years on Law & Order: SVU

LAW & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay has announced an unexpected career move, and fans are excited.
The iconic actress landed a Broadway role, but it doesn’t look like she’s stepping away from her role as detective Olivia Benson.
On Monday morning, the official Instagram account for Every Brilliant Thing announced that Mariska Hargitay will be joining the cast.
The Law & Order: SVU star appeared in a photo wearing wide-leg jeans and a white cardigan, surrounded by confetti.
According to the post, Mariska, 62, will make her Broadway debut on May 26.
It doesn’t appear her new role will conflict with her longstanding commitment to Law & Order: SVU either.
The shows appear to align with Mariska’s summer hiatus, meaning she’ll have plenty of time to balance the two gigs.
Fans in the comments on the Instagram post celebrated the news.
“Send the Call Out! SEND THE CALL OUT! MARISKA HARGITAY IS COMING TO BROADWAY!” one fan exclaimed.
A second celebrated, “I mean this in a good way…..HOLY F**k!”
“AYEEEEEEE BWAY BABY!” a third person posted.
A fourth fan wrote, “A Broadway babe living out another dream. Congratulations beautiful!! I cannot wait to be in the audience opening night with my daughter! My tickets have been secured!”
“Literally gasped out loud in my office. Brilliant,” penned a fifth supporter.
Another excitedly wrote, “OMFG?!?!?!? I’M LITERALLY SHAKING I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!!! I’m so freaking happy for her.”
Law & Order: SVU recently announced that it was going on a long break.
On March 21, a new episode of the show aired followed by a promotional trailer for what’s to come.
The next episode won’t air until April 11, however, leaving viewers with only reruns for several weeks.
Other Law & Order shows have also taken a temporary timeout until April as well.
The show typically goes on a summer hiatus starting in May, with new episodes returning in September.
Fans can stream old and new episodes of Law & Order on Peacock.
