Ahead of Season 4, The Witcher Season 5 Has Good News for Fans of Netflix’s Live-Action Adaptation

Fans of Netflix’s The Witcher are casting all types of hopeful spells for the upcoming release of Season 4 this year, but so far, viewers are left in limbo about its 2025 premiere window. However, in a bid to lift some of the anticipation, production for the adaptation’s final season has received some very positive news.

Now that The Witcher season 4 is set to start a brand-new era for the popular Netflix fantasy series, with production wrapping up on the show last year, it goes without saying that it will be a sad moment in time for Witcher fans due to Henry Cavill hanging up his sword as Geralt of Rivia. Praised by viewers for his accurate portrayal of the White Wolf and for bringing a deeper and more meaningful dynamic to the character, the iconic monster-hunter soon found his replacement with The Hunger Games‘ Liam Hemsworth, which, of course, brought in some concerns from fans. In another cruel twist of the knife, Kim Bodina, who played Geralt’s mentor and fellow witcher Vesemir in season two, also left The Witcher due to other commitments. However, the show must go on and so far, The Witcher season four has a host of incredibly talented actors joining its cast, which will hopefully cast aside any doubts about its success.

According to Redanian Intelligence, production on The Witcher season 5 is over halfway done, even before anyone has laid eyes on season 4 yet. Shooting began in March in South Africa and Longcross Studios in London, as well as locations in Surrey and Wales, which are known for their stunning landscapes, with filming for season 5 scheduled to wrap in September this year. As reported by Redanian, The Witcher follows a divided block structure for each season, with each director being given two episodes and now with the crew celebrating the completion of block 2, this means that 4 out of 8 episodes of the final season are done.

The first two episodes of The Witcher season 5 are directed by Jeremy Webb, who filmed the final two episodes of Season 4, as well as episodes for series like The Last of Us, The Umbrella Academy, and The Punisher and the second block is directed by Christopher Clark Cowan, who directed The Acolyte, Miguel Wants to Fight and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Even without Cavill, fans will have a ton of familiar faces to look forward to seeing, like Joey Batey as Jaskier, Meng’er Zhang as Milva, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and of course, Freya Allan as Ciri. However, some new faces will also prove pretty exciting as season 4 will see stars such as The Matrix‘s Laurence Fishburne, who plays Emiel Regis, and the return of fan-favorite Queen Meve, played by Rebecca Hanssen.
