The Witcher Producer Further Teases Multiverse Transition to Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt

An executive producer for Netflix’s The Witcher has further teased a multiverse transition to Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt after Henry Cavill leaves at the conclusion of Season 3.

Speaking to the Radio Times, executive producer Tomek Bagiński followed up on the “meta” comments made in June by teasing a Season 4 opener that’s “really true to the book”.

“[Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich] and her team, and there are a few really good writers returning to the writers’ room for Season 4, I think they coblled together a really nice opening which is really true to the book.

“This is a very little thing that I will tease,” he continued. “People who know the books really deeply also know that this is not a typical fantasy book. It’s not just one world. It’s not just one story happening in those books, in those stories. It’s a huge, huge world which is very, very complex.”

“I think they coblled together a really nice opening which is really true to the book.”

This all but confirms Netflix will introduce the concept of the multiverse in the show, seemingly bringing in a Geralt of a different universe to replace Cavill’s version from the first three seasons.

The Witcher’s take on a multiverse, and spoilers for the books (and therefore potentially upcoming seasons of the show) ahead, isn’t quite the same as the one currently popular in films and TV thanks to the likes of Marvel and DC.

Instead of having different versions of the likes of Spider-Man all going through similar situations in separate universes, author Andrzej Sapkowski simply referenced vastly different worlds and plains of existence. Alongside The Witcher’s deep fantasy, for example, there are worlds similar to earth (and earth itself, actually), modern worlds deep within an apocalypse, and so on.
