Another major Coronation Street exit confirmed as star leaves after 11 years

It’s been confirmed that Daniel Brocklebank is leaving Coronation Street.
The actor has played Billy Mayhew for the past 11 years. He is the local vicar in Weatherfield, and is also the adoptive father of Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby).
As first reported in The Sun, Daniel has become the next star to prepare for his departure, and will reportedly leave next year in an issue-based storyline.
Discussing his departure, Daniel said: ‘I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not look forward to going into work.

He added: ‘I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.’
Producer of the show Kate Brooks noted: ‘Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.
‘We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND. An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.

Billy has been trying to move forward in his life following the death of his beloved partner Paul (Peter Ash).
Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and died last year. When the story was first announced, Daniel told us that he has a very personal connection to it, as he cared for his grandfather, who had MND.
’20 years ago my grandfather was diagnosed with MND and subsequently died from it, so this is a subject I’ve lived through in my own life, as have the rest of my family,’ Daniel candidly told Metro at the time.

‘Then because I’ve been working with the MND Association for so long I subsequently met a lot of other people who have been living with MND, so it’s a subject that’s really close to my heart. I’ve been helping to fundraise for them for many years.’
A number of stars including Charlotte Jordan, Katy Cavanagh and Paddy Bever have all left the show this year.
This week, Colson Smith’s final scenes as Craig Tinker aired. The beloved copper was attacked by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) and died in hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained.
