Another major Coronation Street star quits after three years – and his exit is soon
Another Coronation Street star has quit the show after three years of an ‘unforgettable’ chapter.
Paddy Bever will step away from the role after three years, having told bosses early last year of the decision.
Adopted son of David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Max has been central to some major storylines this year, most notably helping Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) dispose of Joel Deering’s body.
He was also groomed into a far-right gang.
With him having filmed his final scenes, it is expected he will leave in spring.
He will be part of an explosive storyline with the Platt family, with viewers understandably concerned he may be caught in the upcoming fire.
‘After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way, Paddy, 22, said in a statement.
Talking to The Mirror, he added: ‘It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.’
Earlier today, Corrie rubbished claims of a crisis on the cobbles, despite a wave of cast exits.
An insider said: ‘Fans can ignore any idea that within a decade the soap will be gone, because it’s in no way on the brink of collapse. There’s some really exciting twists ahead for our favourite characters and couples, with a massive stunt that will no doubt bring the drama, as well as some hard-hitting storylines bringing some of soap’s biggest characters to the forefront.
On the wave of exits, they added: ‘These departure decisions have been made across the last 12 months not in the past few weeks, be they a choice by an actor or storyline related, which is not at all unusual.
‘The soap does not announce them that far in advance as it undermines the storytelling if people know too soon that a character will be going.’
Other actors saying goodbye will be Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), who won’t leave until 2026.
Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) and Shelley King (Yasmeen Metcalfe) are among the others, with Colson Smith recently axed as Craig Tinker.
