Ellie Leach says ‘never say never’ to Coronation Street return

Just a few months after she won Strictly Come Dancing, Ellie Leach spoke to The One Show about bringing Faye Windass back.

What did you miss?

Ellie Leach appeared as a guest on Friday’s episode of The One Show and discussed the prospect of returning to the cobbles — a year after she left behind the role of Faye Windass on Coronation Street.

Leach is pondering her next step after winning Strictly Come Dancing 2023 alongside professional partner Vito Coppola. She’s now finished up the Strictly Come Dancing live tour and is making her stage debut in Cluedo 2 — heading off on yet another tour.

What, how and why?

But once Leach has hung up her candlestick next to the billiard room after embodying Miss Scarlett, there’s a chance she might return to the role that made her famous.

Leach joined Coronation Street in 2011 as Faye Windass and stayed in the role for 12 years, taking part in big storylines including a surprising teen pregnancy and her attack on Adam Barlow. She left the soap in 2023.

One Show host Roman Kemp asked Leach whether she’d ever take the opportunity to return as Faye, given how important the role has been to her career.

“I mean never say never, obviously. She didn’t die,” said Leach. “I spent so many amazing years there and grew up there. They will always be like my family. It was an amazing experience and I loved it.”

Discussing her emotional exit in an Instagram post back in May 2023, Leach said that Faye “will always have a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to see what the future holds beyond those Corrie cobbles”.

She added: “Everyone says we’re like a family at Corrie and we really are. From the cast, to the crew, make-up, costume, everyone in front of the camera and behind the cameras are what makes this show so special and I’m eternally grateful to have played a tiny part in that.”
