Hot Take: The Witcher’s Yennefer of Vengerberg Is the Ultimate Pick-Me Girl

The Witcher has done a lot to paint the sorceress a hero, but Yennefer has been bugging some fans for years – and there is one obvious reason for that.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but Yennefer of Vengerberg is literally the definition of a pick-me girl (and has been since her introduction to the series). Why, you might ask?

Ever since Tissaia de Vries took her in to help her become a mage in Aretuza, Yennefer has come under the impression that she is special and “not like the other girls” in any way.

We get that she was treated like a literal pig because of her elven ancestry and physical deformities, but that doesn’t mean that when she has finally gained power, she should have a right to abuse it. On the contrary, actually.

When she goes through her beautification, Yennefer starts thinking that the rules are not for her. When Tissaia breaks her promise about sending her to Aedirn (though unintentionally), Yennefer just decides to get her way, disregarding both Fringilla and the Chapter.

Then as years pass by, the sorceress realizes that the job that she used to desire doesn’t fulfill her anymore and lets an innocent woman, whose husband has been treating her as an incubator, and child die. Just because the woman in question (who finds out that her husband has ordered to assassinate her) lashes out in a moment of crisis. Come on.

Following the baby’s death, Yennefer comes to the conclusion that she’d make a great mom (spoiler alert: she wouldn’t) and again doesn’t let anyone stand in her way. Endangering Jaskier’s life because she wants to acquire a Djinn for herself (she is special, she can handle it)? Easy. Starting a fight with Tissaia, who seems to be genuinely concerned about her? No hesitation.

Yennefer is truly convinced that she deserves special privileges solely because she wants them, and that even includes her and Geralt’s relationship. From the first moment they meet to the point when she leaves him, going all drama queen and saying how he has lost her, it is just a giant mess.

The Witcher really needs to show viewers a better side of Yennefer. Fingers crossed for season 4.
