How Wednesday Season 2 Can Solve Its Love Triangle Problem

Wednesday’s love triangle between Xavier and Tyler may not make sense for the main character, but season 2 can give the romance some meaning.

Although Jenna Ortega recently revealed that she felt the love triangle on Wednesday made no sense for her character, Wednesday season 2 has the chance to make the out-of-place romance make sense. Wednesday is a comedy horror series produced by Netflix starring Jenna Ortega as the infamous Wednesday Addams. In season 1, Wednesday begrudgingly attends her parents alma mater, Nevermore Academy, but finds herself quickly engrossed in the school’s secrets and mysteries.

Wednesday has many moving parts to it from horrifying monsters and psychic flashbacks to budding friendships and school dances. One aspect of the series that viewers may love but isn’t necessarily on brand is Wednesday’s love triangle with Nevermore student Xavier and normal-human-turned-Hyde Tyler. Wednesday actor Jenna Ortega spoke about the storyline on Armchair Expert, saying that in terms of accuracy, Wednesday would never fall into a silly teenage issue like a love triangle. While this may be true, the love triangle may not need to disappear entirely, as Wednesday season 2 can make the plot point serve a purpose other than romance.

The Love Triangle C an Create Complications In Wednesday Season 2

While the first effect of a love triangle is usually romance, the second is almost always plot complications, which is what Wednesday season 2 should focus on. Rather than having Wednesday struggle with her feelings and choosing between boys, the love triangle should be a nuisance that gets in the way of her accomplishing her main task. This would mean that, in a sense, the love triangle is happening to Wednesday rather than it happening for her.

This change would make the love triangle more sensible for Wednesday because it would take the romance out of it. Although Wednesday’s Xavier and Tyler may exhibit feelings for Wednesday, she would not, making the storyline much more accurate to her character. In this way, the love triangle could continue for the sake of drama but without messing up the integrity of Wednesday Addams’ character. Wednesday season 2 could become even more complicated as Wednesday combats the feelings that others have for her while simultaneously trying to solve a mystery.

Wednesday Could Make Her Intentions Clear In Season 2

If the love triangle were to change in Wednesday season 2, it would be imperative that Wednesday makes her feelings known. Throughout Wednesday season 1, Xavier and Tyler both declare their feelings for Wednesday without her giving n honest answer in return, perpetuating the potential romance. Instead, Wednesday season 2 should see Wednesday telling the boys, and everyone else for that matter, that she has no interest in romance. Not only would this clear up any misconception that Wednesday is into the love triangle, but it could be an interesting addition to the plot as the characters wrangle with trying to become close with Wednesday in other ways.

Although Wednesday added a storyline that doesn’t exactly fit the narrative for Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams, there’s still plenty of time to fix it. In Wednesday season 2, the love triangle should fit from being a romantic trope to a plot device that makes Wednesday’s life harder. By doing this, Wednesday will be a more accurate character and the series will subvert expectations, leading to a more dynamic story.
