“Unwavering Allegiance”: Morgan Elsbeth Actress Explains Why A Nightsister Is Working For The Empire

Ahsoka star Diana Lee Inosanto has explained why a Nightsister of Dathomir would be working for the Empire in the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show.

Ahsoka star Diana Lee Inosanto has explained why a Nightsister of Dathomir would be working for the Empire. Ahsoka’s rival in the quest for Grand Admiral Thrawn, Morgan Elsbeth is a high-ranking Imperial magistrate who appears to command significant resources. Ahsoka episode 2 revealed that Morgan is in fact a Nightsister of Dathomir, the only one ever to join the Empire given her people were wiped out. This, naturally, raises the intriguing question of just why a Nightsister would be so committed to the Empire.

Speaking to Dagobah Dispatch in an interview conducted before the strikes, actress Diana Lee Inosanto has explained Morgan’s loyalty is not to the Empire – it’s to Thrawn. Describing Morgan’s core character traits, she explains she is defined by her “unswavering allegiance to Thrawn for sure. She’s somebody who’s very faithful to his causes, and his ideals, and so that’s one of the things I think I can share with people; her loyalty.” This would certainly explain why Morgan is so committed to finding Thrawn and Ezra, who she believes have been transported along the pathway to Peridea in a distant galaxy.

Thrawn Seems To Have Built His Own Empire – Inside The Empire

It’s beginning to seem as though Grand Admiral Thrawn has built his own Empire within the Empire. This concept was clearly set up in Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn: Ascendancy trilogy, which revealed the Chiss had never truly been exiled by his own people at all; rather, he had been deliberately placed by them so he could be absorbed into galactic government and work on the Chiss’ behalf. Indeed, he is known to have even spirited close, valuable associates from the Empire off into the Chiss Ascendancy in the Unknown Regions.

It makes sense for Lady Morgan Elsbeth to be loyal to Thrawn on a personal level rather than the Empire. He is, after all, the only non-human to ascend to the rank of Grand Admiral; he’s also notable for struggling with political matters, so may well have called upon Morgan as an ally. Meanwhile, it’s also significant that the Imperial Shadow Council introduced in The Mandalorian season 3 – a group of Imperial warlords coordinating the Imperial Remnant’s activities in secret – had no knowledge of Thrawn’s whereabouts. With the possble exception of Gilad Pellaeon, another of Thrawn’s close friends, it’s reasonable to assume none of them were being kept in the loop about Morgan’s quest in Ahsoka.
