Would Sam Winchester Really Be Missed If Written Out Halfway Through Supernatural?

Enough time has passed to answer honestly.

For shows that go on for more than 10 years, it’s almost impossible to keep the quality up without losing characters or changing things up a bit. It’s hard enough to come up with storylines for the same characters for a few seasons without getting repetitive, and it’s even harder when you have to come up with different supernatural challenges.

It’s not exactly the writers’ fault for getting a little trapped in the premise they were originally given, but The CW’s Supernatural hasn’t been the most exciting show in its latest seasons, and that’s the general consensus among the majority of the show’s fans.

Unfortunately, two Winchester brothers weren’t enough to keep the show entertaining for as long as it did. By the fifteenth season, most of the series would change at least part of the general setting or one of the characters. And since Dean and Castiel are so popular as partners (in all senses of the word), many think it would be best to let Sam go.

While Sam Winchester had a lot of fans of his own, he wasn’t the most popular character overall, and his recurring conflicts with Dean didn’t help matters. Around season 8, in the middle of three seasons in a row dealing with the same issue between two brothers, would be a perfect time for him to be released, some fans feel.

“Sam should have been written out of the show by season 9 at the latest, with Cas taking his place and Charlie also becoming a series regular,” X user hellertrash mentioned at a prompt to give out an unpopular opinion.

Turns out, the opinion wasn’t all that unpopular, as it got 500+ likes with people agreeing in replies.

While there is no way to know what the show would look like if it went that route and got rid of one of its main characters, either for a while or for good, it would definitely not be the same.

And if you love Supernatural for what it was and would not change a single thing about it, you can go ahead and revisit your favorite Sam Winchester moments while streaming the show on Netflix.
