‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 28: 6 Cast Members Returning, One Star May Come Back

Law & Order: SVU is returning this fall.
The long-running procedural TV series centers around the detectives of the Special Victims Unit as they investigate and prosecute sex-based crimes, and has been on the air since 1999.
The show was renewed for Season 28, which will be released this fall, airing on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. (We don’t have an exact premiere date just yet.)
Along with the renewal announcement, we also know which stars are likely returning for Season 28, and one star possibly making a return.

Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson – RETURNING
Mariska, who’s been with the show since Season 1, is back to reprise her role as Olivia Benson.

Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola – RETURNING
Ice-T, who has been with the show since Season 2, is reprising his role as Fin Tutuola in the series.
“I think we’ll have Ice-T more…Fin is like the pinch hitter. The way I see Fin is almost like the Number 2 for Benson. I want to see him more in a training capacity in the next season,” the showrunner teased of his character in Season 28 to TVLine.

Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins – RETURNING
Kelli Giddish is returning as Amanda Rollins in Season 28.

Aimé Donna Kelly as Renee Curry – RETURNING
Aimé Donna Kelly joined as Renee Curry in Season 23, going on to become a recurring star before being promoted to a main star for Season 27. She is returning.

Peter Scanavino as ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, Jr. – RETURNING
Peter, who has played Dominick Carisi since Season 16, is back in action for Season 28.

Kevin Kane as Det. Terry Bruno – RETURNING
Kevin Kane first debuted in the role in Season 24, and has also played minor characters in Seasons 9, 13, 17, and 20. He is back for Season 28.

Corey Cott as Det. Jake Griffin – EXPECTED TO RETURN
Corey Cott joined the show in Season 27 and was promoted to series regular in Episode 9. He is expected back for Season 28.
“I want to see more of Curry and Griffin together. I like them together a lot. And then, in that case, it would be Bruno and Rollins together,” the showrunner teased to TVLine.

Christopher Meloni as Det. Elliot Stabler – POSSIBLY APPEARING
Due to his spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime getting cancelled, it seems likely that Det. Elliot Stabler will return to Law & Order: SVU.
“I want to use him as much as he can, but also, I don’t want to stunt it, or do it for no reason. It has to mean something. I think that would be amazing,” the showrunner explained to TVLine.
